The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has joined fifteen other organisations in signing a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) to advance energy efficiency and sustainable development across the country.
The agreement, signed in Abuja, underscores a shared commitment to promoting energy efficiency as a driver of economic growth, industrial productivity, and environmental sustainability within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and beyond.
Representing the Chamber at the signing ceremony was the Executive Director of the National Policy Advocacy Centre (NPAC), Dr. Chidiebere Onwumere, while the Director of Legal Services at ECN, Barrister Abdulazeez Elamah, signed on behalf of the Commission.
The collaboration reflects a strategic alignment between ECN, as the apex government agency responsible for national energy planning and policy coordination, and ACCI, the leading voice of the business community in the FCT.
The MoU establishes a framework for implementing an Energy Efficiency Awareness and Implementation Campaign targeted at businesses.
This initiative aims to promote best practices in energy management, provide capacity-building programmes such as training and workshops, facilitate access to financing for energy-efficient technologies, and encourage the adoption of renewable energy solutions in business operations.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of ECN, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, emphasized that the partnership is a critical step toward addressing Nigeria’s energy challenges through collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing.
He noted that the agreements signed go beyond formalities and represent a firm commitment to delivering measurable outcomes that support Nigeria’s energy transition agenda and sustainable development goals.
The partnership also aligns with broader national priorities, including carbon emission reduction, clean energy adoption, and the expansion of modern energy services to underserved communities. Through joint initiatives such as energy audits, awareness campaigns, pilot projects, and sector-specific interventions, both ECN and ACCI aim to enhance business competitiveness while contributing to a more resilient and sustainable economy.
As one of the signatories, ACCI reaffirmed its commitment to mobilizing the private sector, advocating supportive policies, and fostering strategic collaborations that will translate the objectives of the MoU into tangible benefits for businesses and the wider Nigerian economy.
The Chamber views this partnership as a significant step toward strengthening energy efficiency practices and accelerating sustainable industrial development.
