President Bola Tinubu will deliver a joint address to the National Assembly on Friday, June 12, 2026, as part of a series of events to mark Nigeria’s 27th Democracy Day anniversary, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) announced.
The disclosure came during the inauguration of the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) tasked with organising the national celebrations.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who inaugurated the committee at the Shehu Shagari Complex in Abuja, said the presidential address forms a key highlight of the modest yet purposeful programme approved for the commemoration.
He noted that the day offers the Federal Government an opportunity to showcase achievements in strengthening democratic institutions and advancing national development despite prevailing socio-economic challenges.
With only ten days to the anniversary, the SGF urged committee members to hit the ground running.
He emphasised that this year’s activities would align with the nation’s mood and the government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility.
Other approved activities for the 27th Democracy Day include: World Press Conference – Thursday, June 4, 2026, Special Juma’at Prayers – Friday, June 5, 2026, Special Inter-denominational Church Service – Sunday, June 7, 2026, Democracy Day Public Lecture – Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Youth and Women-Oriented Programmes – Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Presidential Broadcast – Friday, June 12, 2026 and Democracy Day Gala Night – Friday, June 12, 2026.
