Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor, has expressed strong disappointment over President Bola Tinubu’s failure to fulfill campaign promises made to Nigerians during the 2023 elections.
Delivering a homily at the burial mass for Mrs Christiana Onuabuchi Ekweozor, mother of APGA chieftain Dr Augustine Azubuike Ekweozor, at St Joseph’s Church, Umuawulu, Awka South LGA, Ezeokafor criticized the president’s handling of power supply.
“Tinubu promised Nigerians that if he won the 2023 presidential election, he would improve power supply within his first two years. But sadly, the president remains unconcerned about fulfilling this promise,” Ezeokafor said.
The Bishop noted that while power challenges persist nationwide, a first-class solar system was recently installed in Aso Rock. “What this means is that there is no hope for improved power supply as far as the present Federal Government is concerned,” he stated.
“In a civilized society where things work, this is an impeachable act abandoning common good to build your own home,” Ezeokafor argued.
He also decried worsening insecurity and the high cost of living following fuel subsidy removal, saying the government shows no sign of concern for ordinary Nigerians.
“Nigerians were promised that fuel subsidy would be reinvested in critical national infrastructure to make lives better, but we haven’t seen it,” he added.
Ezeokafor urged the congregation to “shine their eyes” ahead of the 2027 elections and elect competent leaders who can change the country’s narrative.
The cleric described the late Mrs Ekweozor as a devout Catholic who lived and died in Christ, consoling her children and mourners.
In his vote of thanks, chief mourner Dr Azubuike Ekweozor thanked the bishop, friends, associates, and well-wishers for honoring his mother.
The mass was attended by several Catholic priests, captains of industry, traditional rulers, and top Anambra State government officials, including Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Somtochukwu Udeze.
