The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected criminal identified as Okechukwu Chinweko, popularly known as “Bullet,” over alleged involvement in kidnapping, rape, and illegal possession of firearms.
The suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, during an operation carried out in the early hours of May 16, 2026, following credible intelligence.
According to reports, the police team raided a hideout located in the Umudike community of Awka, where the suspect was successfully arrested.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that the suspect had the nickname “Bullet” tattooed on his arm.
Ikenga stated that security operatives recovered a locally made Beretta pistol and eight rounds of live 9mm ammunition during the operation.
Preliminary investigations linked the suspect to an incident that occurred on May 2, 2026, in which he allegedly abducted and raped a female victim before she was later rescued by police operatives.
The Police spokesperson added that the victim sustained varying degrees of injuries, while the suspect escaped from the scene before his eventual arrest.
The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and ensuring that criminal suspects are brought to justice.
Ikenga further disclosed that the suspect would be charged in court after the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
