The Kaduna State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive governance and equitable development across all parts of the state, while expressing strong support for the re-election bid of the Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sunday Marshall Katung.
This assurance was given on Saturday by the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, who represented Governor Uba Sani at the inauguration of Senator Katung’s campaign and official declaration for a second term at the Kafanchan New Township Stadium in Jema’a Local Government Area.
Delivering the Governor’s goodwill message, the Deputy Governor apologised for his absence, explaining that official engagements outside the state prevented him from attending the event personally.
“The Governor holds the people of Southern Kaduna in very high esteem and would have loved to be here physically,” she said.
“However, he has asked me to assure you that this administration remains fully committed to equity, fairness, and inclusive development.”
She stressed that the current administration is focused on practical governance and measurable impact rather than political rhetoric.
“We are not interested in empty promises. We are focused on projects and policies that directly improve the lives of our people across communities,” she stated.
According to her, Southern Kaduna has continued to benefit from strategic partnerships and development-driven interventions made possible through collaboration between the state and federal governments.
“Every part of Kaduna State must feel the presence of government. That is the philosophy guiding this administration,” she added.
The Deputy Governor commended Senator Katung for what she described as purposeful representation and consistent advocacy for the people of Southern Kaduna.
“Senator Katung has demonstrated commitment in representing his people with dignity, responsibility, and visible results. His voice at the national level is yielding meaningful development,” she said.
She also called for unity and peaceful political engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Unity remains our greatest strength. Development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of division,” she noted, urging political actors and supporters to focus on issue-based campaigns.
“As we move closer to another election season, I urge all stakeholders to shun bitterness and embrace politics that promotes peace, development, and progress,” she added.
In his remarks, Senator Katung formally declared his intention to seek re-election, presenting what he described as his stewardship scorecard since assuming office.
“I stand before you not just as a Senator, but as a servant entrusted with the hopes and expectations of our people,” Katung said.
“Every decision and every step I have taken at the Senate has been guided by the desire to bring development closer to our communities and ensure that Southern Kaduna is not left behind.”
The Senator called for sustained support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani, saying collaboration across all levels of government remained key to accelerated development.
“Our progress depends on unity and collaboration, regardless of political differences,” he stated.
Highlighting some of his achievements, Katung said projects such as the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, were outcomes of sustained legislative advocacy.
“When we fight for institutions like the Federal University of Applied Sciences, we are investing in the future of our children and generations yet unborn,” he said.
On healthcare, the lawmaker disclosed ongoing efforts toward the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Southern Kaduna, stressing that quality healthcare should be accessible to all citizens.
“Healthcare is not a privilege; it is a right, and we are determined to strengthen access, especially in rural communities,” he added.
Katung further disclosed that over 1,000 solar streetlights had been installed across communities within the senatorial district to improve security and stimulate economic activities at night.
“We are also investing in our youths through ICT and vocational training because a self-reliant generation is critical to the future of our society,” he said.
The Senator added that more than 200 farmers had received agricultural support as part of efforts to strengthen food security and improve rural livelihoods.
He also revealed that over ₦2 billion worth of projects had been secured for Kaduna South Senatorial District in the 2026 budget.
“With gratitude to the people for their trust and support, I reaffirm my readiness to continue serving Southern Kaduna,” he declared.
Also speaking at the event, the member representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency, Daniel Amos, expressed strong support for Katung’s second-term ambition, describing his performance as impactful and visible.
“From all indications, Senator Katung has performed beyond expectations. His projects are visible, his engagements are consistent, and his commitment to the people is undeniable,” Amos said.
“This is not politics based on sentiment; this is politics based on performance and results,” he added.
Earlier, the National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Audu Amba, who represented the Chairman of the occasion, Babangida Husseini, also commended Katung’s leadership style and developmental focus.
“Education remains the foundation of every progressive society, and what we are witnessing in Southern Kaduna today is renewed attention to that foundation,” he said.
Amba urged the people to continue supporting leaders committed to human capital development, unity, and sustainable progress.
The event ended with renewed calls for peaceful politics, unity among the people, and sustained investment in the socio-economic development of Southern Kaduna.
