Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed BK, says Governor Nasir Idris has put in place practical measures aimed at taking the State to higher heights of development, cutting across all the socioeconomic aspects of the society
Speaking during a press briefing held on Thursday at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Information and Culture, Ultra-Modern Secretariat Complex, Birnin Kebbi, he outlined several major funding approvals and strategic interventions aimed at addressing infrastructure deficit and improving the wellbeing of the citizens.
In the health sector, the State Executive Council approved the sum of ₦926,371,292.16 for the urgent rehabilitation and upgrading of the Martha Bamaiyi General Hospital in Zuru, a decision necessitated by the hospital’s previously deplorable condition while aboutstat N1.7b was approved for the rehabilitation of 21 Primary Health Centres across the state for an improved healthcare delivery system.
In the area of area of Agriculture and rural development, the Commissioner disclosed that the government has released ₦2b as additional counterpart funding for the second phase, known as “RAAMP Scale-Up,” alongside ₦1b as capital seed funding for the take- off of the Kebbi State Rural Access Roads Agency (RARA).
“These releases ensured that Kebbi state remains up-to-date with its obligations to international partners, who have committed approximately 1 billion US dollars to the project,” he stressed.
The Commissioner said: “The water resources and irrigation sector also received a major boost, as Kebbi State successfully emerged among the 28 states that met the eligibility criteria for the World Bank-supported Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria (SPIN) project. To secure participation, from this initiative, which focuses on food security and dam safety, the government approved and fully released ₦5b in counterpart funding”.
According to the Commisioner, this initiative is expected to enhance food security, improve dam safety and create substantial employment opportunities, particularly for the state’s large agricultural workforce.
In the Lands and Housing sector, he said the administration has prioritized the electrification of the Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu Housing Estate in Birnin Kebbi to enhance security and stimulate local economic activities adding that over ₦975m was approved for this purpose, and work is already underway.
The Commissioner concluded by stating that these milestones achievements are part of the governor’s gargantuan efforts to fulfill his campaign promises, urging the people of Kebbi State to continue their support for the current administration in its efforts to deliver sustained development and the dividends of democracy.
