No fewer than 100 students have benefitted from a youth leadership and life skills training organised by a non-governmental organisation, Awareness Africa Foundation, in Zonkwa, headquarters of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The training, held in partnership with Usawa Kwa Wote and SDG Youth Connect, focused on equipping participants with essential knowledge on human rights, career development, gender equality, technology, and personal growth.
Founder of the foundation and facilitator of the programme, Miss Victoria Odesanya, said the initiative was designed to help young people understand and navigate life challenges while preparing them for a successful future.
She explained that the organisation has continued to empower students across Africa with relevant skills aimed at shaping their lives and enabling them to contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Odesanya noted that her passion for impacting lives, which she developed from childhood, inspired the establishment of the foundation to promote equal opportunities for students through capacity-building programmes.
She appreciated her father, Dr Bode Odesanya, and the organisation’s partners for their support, while calling on government and stakeholders to assist the foundation in expanding its reach.
In separate virtual remarks, representatives of the United Nations, Nicol Bath and Godwin John Baba, urged the participants to embrace continuous learning and adapt to evolving educational trends.
They emphasised the need for innovation and self-development, noting that sustained learning is key to personal growth and community impact.
The Welfare Officer of the foundation, Taye Ikuponiyi, said the organisation also provided writing materials to participants, as well as sanitary pads for female students, as part of efforts to support their academic journey.
She added that the gesture was aimed at motivating the students to apply the knowledge gained and become positive agents of change in their communities.
Also speaking, Dr Bode Odesanya, who is the Chief of Yoruba in Zonkwa, commended the initiative and pledged continued support for the foundation’s activities.
He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity, stressing the importance of encouraging individuals committed to humanitarian service.
Some teachers from Anglican Comprehensive Academy, including Mr Nathaniel Baba and Mrs Patience Musa, described the programme as impactful for both students and educators.
On behalf of the participants, Reuben Kabiru Musa and Rejoice Bulus expressed appreciation to the organisers, noting that the training had significantly influenced their perspectives and aspirations.
