The All Progressive Congress (APC) National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has demanded Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike’s immediate resignation, citing his “uncouth responses” and “obsession with Rivers politics”. Basiru expressed shock at Wike’s harsh reaction to his statement on respecting sitting Governors as Party leaders in their States.
Basiru asserts Wike isn’t an APC member, lacking authority to interfere in party affairs. He defends his role, stating he’s duty-bound to protect APC interests and structures. Basiru dismisses Wike’s N600 billion claim as “cheap blackmail”, challenging him to provide evidence or face court action, citing his own “unquestionable integrity”.
Basiru reminds Wike he’s not above scrutiny, saying “he is not God” and shouldn’t overplay his hand. He draws on his past, fighting for democracy against military rule, unlike Wike. Basiru stresses supporting President Tinubu doesn’t make Wike an APC member, and attempts to destabilize the party in Rivers State won’t be tolerated.
“His attempt to bring PDP’s spirit into APC won’t work,” Basiru warns, advising Wike to resign from the Federal Executive Council, saying it’s dishonorable to cause party confusion while holding office.
