“Supreme Court Affirms Okpebholo as Edo Governor, Dismisses PDP’s Election Petition”

By Gambo Jagindi

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has delivered a final verdict, affirming Monday Okpebholo as the duly elected Governor of Edo State. In a unanimous decision, a five-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Garba dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asuerinme Ighodalo, for lacking merit.

The apex court held that the appellants failed to provide credible and admissible evidence to support their claims of electoral irregularities, including over-voting and substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act. The court noted that the petitioners’ allegations were unsubstantiated and lacked concrete evidence to back up their claims.

The Supreme Court’s judgment brings to an end the legal challenge to Okpebholo’s election, affirming his mandate as the Governor of Edo State. The court’s decision is a significant development in the state’s political landscape, and it remains to be seen how Okpebholo’s administration will shape the future of Edo State.

With this judgment, Okpebholo’s victory in the governorship election has been upheld, and he can now focus on delivering on his campaign promises to the people of Edo State.
