The Federal Government’s decision to activate the Forest Guard, a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Environment, marks a significant step towards securing Nigeria’s forests. Established in 1963, the Forest Guard aims to protect the country’s 1,129 forests from terrorists and criminal gangs.
The initiative involves employing thousands of young Nigerians as Forest Guards, who will undergo training and be armed to perform their duties effectively. This move is expected to enhance security in the forests and prevent criminal activities. The Forest Guards will play a crucial role in flushing out terrorists and other criminal elements hiding in the forests.
It’s essential to note that the Forest Guard initiative is distinct from the proposed Nigeria Forest and Security Service, which is still awaiting presidential assent. The two initiatives are separate, and the Forest Guard is not linked to the proposed bill.
The activation of the Forest Guard is a collaborative effort between the federal and state governments. The office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Ministry of Environment have been tasked with ensuring the full implementation of this initiative.
The Forest Guard initiative sends a strong message to terrorists and criminal gangs operating in the forests: the government is committed to securing the country’s territory and protecting its citizens. With the Forest Guards in place, Nigerians can look forward to a safer and more secure future.
The Forest Guard initiative is a welcome development in Nigeria’s efforts to address security challenges. By employing young Nigerians as Forest Guards, the government is not only enhancing security but also providing opportunities for youth employment. As the initiative progresses, it’s essential to monitor its impact and effectiveness in securing the country’s forests.
By clarifying the distinction between the Forest Guard initiative and the proposed Nigeria Forest and Security Service, i hope to empower citizens with accurate information.
Calling on the public to be cautious of any schemes or scams that may arise from the misconception between the Forest Guard initiative and the proposed Nigeria Forest and Security Service. Legitimate information about the Forest Guard initiative will come from official government channels.
