Mangu tragedy: PPF hails Gov. Mutfwang’s swift response, advocates sustained peace

By Deborah Coker
Abuja, June 22, 2025 The Plateau Patriotic Front (PPF), a socio-political group, has commended Gov. Caleb Mutfwang for his swift response to the tragic mob attack in Mangu District on Friday.

Authorities said no fewer than eight persons died in the attack.

The National Coordinator of the PPF, a sociopolitical group, Mr Mani Imman, gave the commendation in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.

The victims of the Mangu tragedy were mostly travellers en route to a wedding in Quan’pan LGA from Zaria, Kaduna State, and were mistaken for intruders amid heightened tensions in the region.

Preliminary reports confirmed that the travellers had lost their way and inadvertently entered the Mangu community around 6:00 p.m., only to be attacked by an irate mob spurred by recent terrorist incursions in the area.

Imman commended the governor for his immediate visit to the victims and his firm stance against mob violence.

He noted that the governor who was visibly distressed during his visit to the General Hospital, Mangu, in the Mangu Local Government Area of the state where survivors were receiving treatment, had described the incident as “deeply painful and entirely avoidable.”

He stressed the need to sustain peace in the locality in particular and the state at large, emphasising that the governor was focused on delivering good governance.

The PPF national coordinator therefore urged all residents to support the governor by being law-abiding and not allow frustration to make them incur more problems that would derail his focus.
