MOB ATTACK IN PLATEAU: 12 KILLED, 11 INJURED AS WEDDING GUESTS FALL VICTIM TO VIOLENCE

A devastating mob attack occurred on Friday in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, claiming the lives of 12 travelers from Kaduna State. The victims, who were en route to attend a wedding ceremony in Qua’an Pan LGA, were brutally attacked and killed in an incident that has left the community in shock.
According to eyewitnesses, the group of 31 travelers, including men, women, and children, were traveling in an 18-seater bus reportedly owned by Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. They took a wrong turn and stopped to ask for directions when a mob surrounded and attacked them with machetes and clubs. The bus was later set ablaze with bodies inside.
Eleven survivors sustained various injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Mangu. One of the survivors, Ibrahim Umar, recounted the horrific ordeal, saying, “They started beating and attacking us with dangerous weapons. They killed the driver first, then attacked others, and burned the bus with bodies inside.”
The Chief Imam of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Suleiman Haruna, confirmed that eight of the bodies had been recovered and deposited at Mangu General Hospital, while efforts were ongoing to locate the remaining corpses. The cleric commended the Chairman of Mangu LGA for his prompt response and coordination with security agencies.
The Plateau State Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident and is working to bring the perpetrators to justice. The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Alfred Altau, confirmed awareness of the incident and promised an official statement.
