March 30, 2025, marks seven years since the sudden passing of Rt. Hon. Umar Buba Jibrin, a trailblazing Nigerian politician whose unwavering dedication to his people and community continues to inspire generations.

A son of the soil from Kabawa, Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, Jibrin’s remarkable life’s work has left an indelible mark on the annals of Nigerian politics. His commitment to the welfare of his constituents, unshakeable integrity, and visionary leadership have cemented his place as one of the most revered leaders in Kogi State’s history.

Born on November 22, 1960, Jibrin’s academic prowess earned him a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Jos in 1985, followed by a Master’s degree in 1990. His professional journey spanned architecture, academia, and politics, with a stint as Principal Architect at the Federal University of Technology Minna and manager of an Oando filling station in Lokoja.

Jibrin’s foray into politics began in 2003 when he was elected into the Kogi State House of Assembly, representing Lokoja I State Constituency. His exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to his people propelled him to the position of Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency.

During his tenure, Jibrin sponsored several landmark bills, including the National Eye Centre Act Amendment Bill, and played a pivotal role in stabilizing the House during a crisis. His constituency projects transformed lives, with the construction of solar-powered boreholes, donation of electricity transformers, and organization of medical outreach programs.

Jibrin’s selfless service, vision, and leadership have inspired a generation of leaders. His legacy continues to resonate with the people of Kogi State and beyond, a testament to his enduring impact on Nigerian politics.

To ensure that future generations remember Jibrin’s remarkable contributions, his profile has been immortalized on Wikipedia. This lasting tribute serves as a reminder of his unwavering commitment to serving others and his unshakeable resolve to leave a lasting legacy.

As I sit down to write this article, I am filled with a sense of gratitude and admiration for a remarkable individual who has inspired me with his selfless love and devotion. Isa Yahaya, the brother of the late Umar Buba Jibrin, has been a shining example of family loyalty and commitment, particularly in the face of adversity.

Since the untimely passing of his beloved brother, Isa Yahaya has taken on the responsibility of keeping the family together, despite his own limited resources. His unwavering dedication to his family is a testament to the strong bonds of brotherly love and the values of compassion, empathy, and kindness that he embodies.

Yahaya’s selflessness and generosity of spirit have earned him the reputation as a “brother in need.” He has been a constant source of support and comfort to his family, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a listening ear. His presence has been a reassuring reminder that, even in the darkest moments, there is always hope and always someone who cares.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Isa Yahaya’s devotion is his commitment to representing his late brother’s legacy. He has been a faithful ambassador for Umar Buba Jibrin’s memory, ensuring that his brother’s values, ideals, and accomplishments are not forgotten. Whether it is attending events, receiving visitors, or simply sharing stories and memories, Isa Yahaya has been a tireless advocate for his brother’s enduring legacy.
