FG Faces Backlash Over Detention of Minor Protesters, CONYSSA Calls for immediate Release Demand Justice Amidst Growing Unrest!

The Coalition of Nigerian Youths on Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA) is sounding the alarm, calling for the swift release of minors unjustly detained during the recent #EndBadGovernance protests sweeping Nigeria. These young advocates were peacefully exercising their constitutional rights to free speech and assembly, only to be met with iron-fisted suppression

Amb. Ade Mario Emmanuel, Director General for CONYSSA, has made a powerful statement emphasizing that Nigerian youths, including minors, are patriots advocating for a better Nigeria, not criminals. He urges the Federal Government to adhere to international child protection and human rights standards, ensuring the immediate release of detained minors. This stance is backed by the Nigerian Constitution and international instruments like the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which safeguard minors from unjust treatment and detention

According to CONYSSA the protests were sparked by Nigeria’s rising inflation and insecurity, with youths taking to the streets to voice their frustrations over issues like unemployment and economic hardship. Unfortunately, security forces apprehended some of these peaceful demonstrators, including minors

We call on civil society organizations, human rights advocates, and the international community to join us in urging the Federal Government to take immediate action in releasing these young Nigerians. Furthermore, we encourage all levels of government to engage with youths constructively and create platforms for dialogue and reform, recognizing that peaceful protest is an essential part of any vibrant democracy.
