In a major crackdown on illicit drug trafficking, the Tincan Island Port Area Command has intercepted three containers filled with dangerous drugs. The Customs Area Controller, DA NNADI, unveiled the seizures in Lagos on Wednesday, highlighting the Command’s proactive stance against drug smuggling.
The seized drugs are being handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) as part of an ongoing interagency collaboration
This partnership, solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between NDLEA and the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), aims to combat illicit drug importation.
The Command’s swift action was prompted by actionable intelligence on suspected drug importation from a source country. This strategic move showcases the effectiveness of the Command’s surveillance and intelligence gathering capabilities.
In the coming weeks, the Command plans to hand over additional containers of similar nature to the NDLEA after consultations with Customs Headquarters. This sustained effort underscores the commitment to curbing the illicit drug trade in Nigeria.
