The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN) has issued a statement absolving the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) of allegations made by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).
NCSCN urged NNPCL to resist foreign interference and distractions, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in its operations.
The Council highlighted NNPCL’s crucial role in Nigeria’s economy, stressing that its commitment to transparency and accountability is paramount.
During a press conference, on Friday in Abuja Ambassador Akinlosotu, Executive Director of NCSCN exposed a deliberate plot to frustrate the ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s Petroleum Industry and the transformation of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
Akinlosotu identified the masterminds behind the plot as “internal economic saboteurs and high-level international business actors” driven by political and economic motives. He emphasized the need for NNPCL to eliminate corrupt tendencies, maintain transparency and accountability, and operate with integrity to regain public trust.
The NCSCN’s call for transparency and accountability serves as a reminder to NNPCL to uphold the highest standards of integrity and openness in its operations, ensuring efficient management of resources and contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth and development.
The Council statement also sends a strong message to NNPCL to remain vigilant and committed to transparency, accountability, and integrity in the face of internal and external challenges.”
NCSCN extended sympathy to the NNPCL Management for their daunting task of reforming and rebranding the organization’s image. He acknowledged the challenges of transforming the former NNPC into a reputable and attractive entity, complicated by cleverly crafted conspiracies aimed at discrediting the Federal Government and arousing contempt against President Tinubu.
The NCSCN boss further emphasized that if the system has truly been reborn, as believed, then transparency and accountability must be upheld as its hallmark, without compromise, at all times. He stressed that sustaining these values is crucial for NNPCL’s success and credibility.”
