
Former NLC President Kidnapped in Kaduna

A former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr. Takai Shamang, 78, has been kidnapped by gunmen in his hometown, Biniki, in the Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Shamang was abducted at his residence in Biniki at about 8:00 pm on Friday, July 5. His daughter, Mrs. Grace Abbin, confirmed the incident.
Shamang is also a former President General of the National Union of Electricity and Gas Workers (now National Union of Electricity Employees), serving from 1982 to 1989. He is the founder and President of Gantys Aid for Widows, Orphans and Needy Foundation (GAWON Foundation).
As of the time of this report, there has been no indication of a ransom demand from the kidnappers. The Kaduna State Police Command has not commented on the incident.
This incident comes amidst a series of kidnappings and armed attacks in Kaduna State, including the recent abduction of two Nigerian journalists, their wives, and children, and the fatal attack on the eldest son of a judge, with a ransom demand of N300 million.
