In a major victory against wildlife trafficking, the Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘B’ Kaduna, has intercepted massive consignments of endangered species and arrested four suspects.

At a press briefing today, Comptroller Ahmadu Bello Shuaibu revealed that the unit’s operations from April 17 to May 17, 2024, yielded significant results in the fight against illegal wildlife trade.

Donkey bones and meat worth approximately Three Billion Naira were seized in two separate operations.
– On April 25, 2024, operatives intercepted a Toyota Hilux vehicle carrying 1,529 pieces of donkey bones.
On May 10, 2024, another operation seized 2,016 pieces of donkey meat concealed in a J5 bus.
Four suspects were arrested in connection with the illegal activities.

“It is with a personal sense of sadness that we announce the interception of these endangered species, which are near extinction. We will continue to work tirelessly to prevent such illegal activities and bring perpetrators to justice.”

The Comptroller commended the officers and men of the Unit for their dedication and vigilance, which led to the successful interceptions.

This crackdown sends a strong message to wildlife traffickers and reinforces the Nigerian Customs Service’s commitment to protecting endangered species and preserving the country’s natural heritage.
