The Managing Director of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Malam Ali Muhammed Ali, has advised reporters to be passionate about journalism.

Ali gave the advice on Thursday in an interview at the just concluded 5-day NAN Editorial Management Retreat in Kaduna.

The theme of the retreat is ” NAN Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,”.

“It is important for reporters to be passionate about journalism and also expand their frontier of knowledge, get educated and be vast in all areas of life in order not to be left,” he said.

The NAN MD said that reporters were expected to be equipped with knowledge and also cultivate passion to do their work more effectively.

He said that the editorial department was expected to take the agency to the next level by reponding to news with speed  and in the most contemporary language.

According to him, the objective of the retreat is to intimate members of the editorial staff with the knowledge and change in the media landscape, which is rapidly changing through digitilization.

“In the digital landscape, we have the audio, youtube channel and so many others which are growing fast.

“And unless NAN innovate and except the editorial staff are equipped with new knowledge and acquire the digital skills they will be left behind.

“My dream is to have members of staff who can do more in this digital era and this retreat has turned out to be a success as I believe the paticipants have acquired more knowledge about journalism.

“This exercise is going to be a continuous one as the agency will soon have a marketing retreat and more,” he added.
