Oba Rafiu Balogun, the Elejirin of Ejirin Kingdom in Epe, Lagos State, has called on the Federal Government to regulate prices of foodstuffs and other household commodities.
Balogun said that the measure would reduce the suffering of poor Nigerians.
The royal father spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at Ejirin, on Wednesday.
He said that prices of foodstuffs and other commodities had been rising uncontrollably and inflicting much economic hardship on the citizens.
Balogun said that the Federal Government should urgently introduce measures to control the rising cost of foodstuffs and other goods.
“Cost of commodities are skyrocketing day-by-day.
“Government needs to intervene before it goes out of hand,’’ he said.
The traditional ruler also appealed to the government to release any reserve grains and other farm produce to farmers to boost food production.
“The government should also look into the fluctuating prices of petroleum products,” he added.
He also appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the economic planning of President Bola Tinubu and his team members toward revamping Nigeria.
He implored traders not to increase prices of food items and other commodities arbitrarily.
Balogun said that people at the grassroots were the worst-hit by the economic hardship in the country.
