Non Governmental Organizations,(NGOs), Faith Based Societies, Groups, and spirited individuals seeking to carry out any outreach this coming Christmas and the New Year have been advised to first notify FEMA, NEMA or the Social Welfare Department of the FCT Administration officially before accessing IDP Camps, Destitute and orphanage Homes, within the six (6) Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory.

Accordingly , this is to ensure proper documentation and profiling before the sharing of food and other consumables to indigent people in the Territory.

The Acting Director General of FEMA, Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Sabo, made this known in a Press Statement in Abuja as the arrangements for the Christmas and New Year is being heightened.

The Director-General assured that the Agency in collaboration with its stakeholders is on red alert to ensure a risk free Christmas and New Year celebration.

His words: “Any persons, groups, society, NGOs, or faith-based societies violating this directive will be apprehended by security agencies and prosecuted according to the law.”

According to him, this had become necessary following media reports alleging hospitalization of 200 pupils of a school in Osun State, who took ill after the consumption of food served by an NGO.

Sabo appealed to vulnerable residents of FCT to exercise caution in accepting cooked food from groups or NGOs.

“FEMA could be contacted on the following numbers for useful information to avert threats and risk to life.
112 toll free number or +234- 8188888766,” the statement concluded.
