Pope Francis on Wednesday met with relatives of Israeli hostages and Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
The head of the Catholic Church received the two groups separately before the weekly general audience in the Vatican.
Afterwards, he once again called for peace to be achieved soon.
France said that both sides were suffering from the war,“But here we have gone beyond wars. This is not war. This is terrorism,’’ he added without specifying.
The two groups consisted of about a dozen participants each.
According to the Vatican, the representatives of families from the Gaza Strip included Christians as well as Muslims. The meetings lasted about half an hour each.
During the general audience, the pope later appealed to the faithful: “Let us pray for the Palestinian people, let us pray for the Israeli people, that peace may come.’’
