Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo has presented bank cheques to the tune of N185 million to the families of deceased and injured security personnel in the state.

Uzodimma presented the cheques to the recipients at a brief ceremony in Owerri on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the recipients included personnel of the Nigerian Army, Navy, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Police, Department of State Services and Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), amongst others.

Among the recipients were some members of the Operation Search and Flush, who were brutally attacked at Ehime Mbano on September 19.

The governor thanked the security agencies for their sacrifices on behalf of Imo people and pledged his continued commitment to their welfare.

“This is a sign of gratitude from the Government of Imo and a demonstration of our appreciation of the sacrifices of these our officers to protect our state,“ he said.

One of the recipients, Mr Lawrence Umeh of NIS thanked Uzodinma for his “compassionate compensation and unalloyed support“.

He assured the governor that security personnel would not relent “in the gallant discharge” of their duties of protecting lives and property in the state.
