No life was lost to the fire incident that gutted the Samsung Office at Banex Junction at Wuse 2 in the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement at the scene of the incident, the Acting Director General of FEMA, Mr Mohammed Ibrahim Sabo, said that the fire started in the store room of the 2 storey building at 7.30pm Yesternight.
He informed that the FCT Fire Service control room was activated at 7.38pm and arrived at the scene of the incident scene at 7.43pm.
The firemen were, however, prevented from accessing the Samsung Office by hoodlums.
According to the Ag DG, personnel of the FCT Police Command and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps who arrived the incident scene 7 minutes later were able to repel the hoodlums and allow the firemen access to the premises. The time gap in intervention enabled the whole building to be engulfed by fire.
The cladding used for the aesthetics also contributed to the quick spread of the fire.
With the combined efforts of the fire services, they were able to put off the fire by midnight.
Sabo, who sympathized with the owners of the business, stated that the immediate cause or the fire is still being investigated.
Noting that hoodlums injured one of the firemen and also vandalized a fire truck, Sabo appealed to residents to desist from attacking firemen as this hampers and reduces the response time.
The FEMA boss also appealed to residents to exercise caution in handling electrical appliances, particularly with onset of the dry season.
He urged residents to always use the 112 emergency toll-free number in the event of a disaster.
The Federal Fire Service, FCT Fire Service, FCT police Command , FCT Emergency Management Agency, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were on the ground at the scene of the incident.
