Avoid constructions, other businesses on waterways-Gov Alia
By Bridget Ikyado
The Executive Governor of Benue State Rev, Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia has advised those staying on water ways within the state to vacate immediately.
The Governor gave the advice Tuesday, October 03, 2023 when he visited Benue Links Transport Company, Makurdi to assess the level of damage caused by flood at the company.
The state owned transport company has suffered perennial flooding as a result of poor drainage system and blockage of water ways.
Governor Alia, who has already approved the construction of expanded drainages around the company, advised Benue people to consider the implications of building on areas that are prone to hazards and avoid dumping refuse on water ways.
He expressed the resolve of his administration to curtail flooding in Makurdi town and other areas in the state.
The General Manager of Benue Links, Alexander Fanafa, who led the Governor round the company, appreciated Governor Hyacinth Alia for his determination to revamp the company and equally address the challenges of public transportation in the state.
Mr. Fanafa led the Governor round and showed him the level of work done so far at the company, including the layer of concrete that is used to seal the earth and create a dry ground floor for the company.
Recall that Governor Hyacinth Alia has already approved the procurement of one hundred Hummer buses for Benue Links to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal on the people and address the challenge of transportation in the state.
