Abuja Archdiocese set to host the second 2023 CBCN plenary assembly

The Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja is set to host the second 2023 plenary assembly of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) which is scheduled to hold from 7 to 15 September, 2023 in Abuja, Nigeria. The programme will start with a meeting of the bishops with major superiors of congregations in Nigeria and also with some Catholics of Abuja province.

This is contained in a statement by National Director of Social Communications,Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Michael Nsikak Umoh,in Abuja.

The assembly, a gathering of all the Bishops of Nigeria, both active and retired, and Diocesan Administrators, will begin with an Opening Mass to be celebrated by the CBCN President, Most Rev. Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji on Sunday 10 September, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, followed by the official opening ceremony at the same venue.

The official opening session will begin with the enthronement of the Holy Bible, followed by an opening remark by the Chairman of the occasion and the welcome address by the CBCN President. Goodwill messages will also be entertained from the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, Prelate of the Methodist Church, Dr. Oliver Aba, and from some government dignitaries.

Subsequently, each day will usually commence with an Adoration of Blessed Sacrament and Holy Mass with Lauds, after which the Bishops will proceed with the session for the day. It is expected that there will be reports from the different ecclesiastical provinces and from the different CBCN units and the departments of the Catholic Secretariat.
