As it is becoming clearer that the local government election in Ondo State will be held shortly, a youth group under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, APC Concerned Youths have appealed to the state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, to consider the people of Ikota/Obo/Ologbosere ward widely refered to as Ekamefa and a major part of Ijare zone, as it is their turn to produce the chairman of the local government area.
The group made the appeal at the weekend at a meeting held in Akure, the state capital.
Recall that the Ondo state government recently approved the creation of 33 LCDAs with Ijare LCDA being carved out of Ifedore local government. Ikota/Obo/Ologbosere ward now belongs to Ijare LCDA as a result of this action.
According to the group, the Ikota/Obo/Ologbosere ward people have been denied the opportunity to head Ifedore local government as Chairman since 1991 and they want the Governor to consider them now that there is an LCDA in Ijare zone.
In a communiqué issued shortly after a meeting, the group said: “We are appealing to our amiable and peace-loving governor to discourage what is clearly a mischievous attempt by anyone who is not from Ikota/Obo/Ologbosere ward to subvert the peaceful coexistence among the good people of Ijare zone.
“We want the governor to consult widely with traditional rulers, party leaders and other stakeholders to ascertain the community that is supposed to produce the chairman in the next local government election in the state. We are saying it without mincing words that any aspirant who is not supporting the aspiration of Ikota/Obo/Ologbosere ward people is against equity and peaceful consistence in Ifedore Local council development area.
”The group advised that fairness and equity should be embraced in the coming local government election so as to sustain the peaceful coexistence among the good people of Ijare zone.”
The group also urged stakeholders to adopt a consensus candidate within Ikota/Obo/Ologbosere ward so as to have a peaceful and resounding victory at the polls.
While charging the people of Ikota/Obo/Ologbosere ward to remain calm and be law-abiding, the group condemned the way someone is using the names of some leaders as the standing authority, saying that he has been given the green light to contest.
