The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia Wednesday, June 14, 2023 warned Benue youths against taking laws into their hands.
The Governor stated this at Ikpayongo after assessing the level of destruction caused by the crisis which engulfed the community recently.
There has been a long standing dispute over land between Mbavur and Mbasombo clans of Masev in Gwer-East local government area of Benue State.
Governor Alia, led by Hon. Mrs Agatha Sewuese Akua, the chairman of Gwer-East local government area, assessed the level of destruction and called on the council chairman to submit detailed report of what’s going on in the area to him within 24 hours.
The Governor said he has come to fix Benue State and not to destroy it, therefore, anything that is done to negate the law will have to be called to question.
He warmed that no one has the right to take laws into their hands, and any grievance from any corner be reported to appropriate authorities.
The Governor advised the people to lay down their arms and be their brother’s keepers, at least for the sake of the state.
He continued that Benue State is opened for business and any activity that will dampen the spirit of investors and discourage them from coming to the state will not be tolerated.
In a related development, the Executive Governor paid an unscheduled visit to the Benue State Environmental and Sanitation Agency in Makurdi.
He ordered them to take immediate steps to ensure proper sanitation of Makurdi metropolis.
