
ABU alumni association to hold its annual general assembly oct 6-9

Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association said all is set to hold its annual general assembly (AGA)schedule for October 6-9th
President of the association Dr Sani Khalil made this known in kaduna while addressing journalists ahead of its upcoming activities.
He said the event which will begins with the national executive meetings and a courtesy visit to Amir of zazzau
Khalil said, this year AGA is concide with the ABU 60th anniversary and it will be looking at the new alumni executive achievement in the last one and half year
The event which is expected to be chaired by Minister of Education Mall Adamu Adamu ,while special guest of honour will be kano state governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje ,to Hosted by Gov Nasir El-rufai
He said this years AGA is with a difference which is going to be both physical and virtually while certificate of attendance will be presented to participants.
“Similarly we are going to have a lecture to be delivered by TETFUN executive secretary on funding of tertiary institutions and way forward in addressing the challenges” he said
He explained that papers will be presented on how to redirect educational development in the country to meet up with the global practice.
While the lecture will take place Friday at ABU auditorium adding also the occasion which will be declared open Saturday by the ministry of water resources Suleman Adamu
He said other important activities at the event ,they will be looking at financing of tertiary institutions
The president reiterated that ,the association will continue to work toward promoting the welfare and standards of the University
He noted that,one hundred naira will also be presented to each best graduating students from each faculty at the University
“ABU is a very old institution and we are going to provide a pedestal , we will also have a booklets where the demand of the University will be highlighted and it would go round to all alumni and friends of the University,
” University this days can not be run only by government ,but all must come together give one help or the other towards our educational system”he said
According to him, the Assu strike has impeded in the way things are run in tertiary institutions
On his part, Dr Haruna Jumare the National financial Secretary of the ABU Alumni Association said the association had made alot of achievement in the area of advocacy and members mobilisation
He said when they came on board they realise that there is apathy on the part of awareness by members of the Alumni Association
He said after graduation it been observed that the alumni doesn’t look back at it alma mater
According to him, that why they have gone round the 36 state including the FCT to mobilise its members to discuss problems of the institution
“And what we can do to contribute our own quarter to the university towards its progress and development,
” In doing so we are able to establish 36 branches across the country including the FCT and have been able to inaugurate the executive of the branches “he said(NAN)
