Port Harcourt, Oct. 1, 2022 – Mr Erastus Awortu, Chairman, Andoni local government area, Rivers urged Teachers to be patriotic and diligently do their jobs.
Awortu, on the other hand decried shortage of Teachers in rural areas.
He made this known on Saturday at Ngo, the council’s headquarter during the traditional schools’ parade in comommoration of the Independence Day celebration.
He urged teachers and workers at the local government areas to support the federal government in its efforts towards revamping public schools and making the country better.
The Chairman also condemned the attitude of some teachers deployed to Andoni council area who evaded their original postings and have subjected the areas to shortage of teachers.
“The challenge of lack of teachers in rural schools in Andoni is not the fault of the state government,” he said.
Recall, the Gov. Rotimi Amaechi led administration recruited about three thousand teachers and deployed them across schools in the state.
“Sadly, if you go to the schools in our rural Communities you will hardly find teachers, those employed have all requested for redeployment to the city based schools,” he said.
He blamed some Heads of public Schools for conniving with teachers to cover-up acts of sabotage while also assuring on preparedness to tackle the manace.
“The council has been liasing with the Communities to bridge the gap of lack of teachers, so far, we have Recruited 41volunteer teachers across schools in the area council,” he said.
In his remark, Acting Chairman, Andoni Traditional Rulers Council and Traditional Ruler of Ikuru Town, Chief Aaron Ikuru applauded the Council chairman for his administration’s peace initiative.
He said the move had repositioned the area for development.
Ikuru who was represented by Chief Stanley Ikwut, Traditional Ruler of Okolo-Ile Community charged the people to sustain the peace and support government policies aimed at attracting development across Communities.
The event featured over 10 schools with Government Secondary School Asarama emerging overall best.
