The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has urged youths in Imo to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and register.

The NYCN Chairman in Imo, Mr Ezinwanne Udoka, made the call while interacting with newsmen in Owerri on Monday.

Udoka who decried the low compliance with the CVR in Imo, called on youths in the state to take the lead in getting their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) while the exercise lasted.

He said that available statistics indicated that Imo was one of the states with the least compliance with the CVR, a situation which he described as “worrisome.”

The chairman noted that youths’ participation in politics and electioneering would afford them the opportunity to right the perceived wrongs in society by voting in their preferred candidates during elections.

“The PVC is not only our right, but a powerful tool for positive change of governance and politics.

“NYCN calls on youths who did not have PVCs to quickly visit the website, https://cvrinec.gov.ng, and register online or visit the nearest INEC office to do same.

“Imo youths must not allow themselves to be denied the opportunity and right to actively participate in voting during the elections.

“Now is the time to act wisely by taking advantage of the ongoing continuous voter registration,’’ he said.

Udoka urged the INEC to intensify efforts on public enlightenment on the need for registration, and added that the nation’s youths constituted the highest population of voters.

He assured the commission of continued partnership and support of Imo youths in fair and active politics for a progressive society.

Meanwhile the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Imo, Prof. Francis Ezeonu, has said that the website is open to all eligible voters and called on residents of the state to “take their future in their own hands.”

According to him, the commission is making all necessary arrangements to ensure a hitch-free elections in the country.
