The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has resolved to deliver improved quality services in 2022.
To this end, the agency promised a marked difference in the pursuit of positive reporting and solutions journalism.
This is contained in a communique issued at the end of 2021 NAN Editorial Conference in Ilorin, from Dec. 22 to Dec. 23.
The retreat further resolved to strengthen existing district offices to enhance editorial operations in order to sustain the edge the agency possessed.
It stated that Judiciary and community news would be promoted to complement national development efforts.
The conference therefore enjoined reporters and editors to make themselves more relevant on their operational beats by putting the agency’s interest before personal interest.
Besides, the retreat agreed to introduce new products and services next year, including NAN Explains, which aims at providing more information to the public on developmental issues.
Special feature articles and photonews that would tell stories without captions would also be introduced in the coming year, it said.
The agency also pledged to intensify efforts at conducting more nationwide surveys to support national development in all ramifications.
The communique added that responsible journalism would be promoted, noting credible journalism must go with social responsibility.
It was also agreed that the agency shall continue to reward excellence and exceptional hard work to boost staff morale.
The retreat commended efforts made by the management to tackle some challenges hindering operations of the agency, including the provision of computers, adoption of solar power as well as renovation of some state offices and planned acquisition of drones to boost its operations.
The two-day meeting was attended by the management team, zonal managers and some State Correspondents from the six regions.
The Managing Director of NAN, Mr Buki Ponle, declared the conference opened, while the Editor-In Chief, Mr Silas Nwoha, delivered a goodwill message.
The Head of Lagos Operations, Mr Ephraims Sheyin, presented a critique of the the agency’s editorial products, while Taiwo Obe, the resource person, delivered a lecture on how to improve news content by making use of ICT.
The communique was signed by a team of Rapporteurs led by Dr Rasaq Owolabi.
