Abuja, Dec. 21, 2021 (NAN) A school Proprietress, Mrs Oluwafolakemi Olasanya, has urged parents and guardians to always have close monitoring of their wards inorder to put an end to bullying amongst students.
Olasanya, in charge of New Emerald Private School, Kubuwa spoke during a funfair organised for pupils to have a relaxing time with their parents, away from violence and bullying.
“In order to end bullying It is necessary for parents to make sure that their children don’t go out unnecessarily and mingle with bad influence,
“And due to fear of insecurity in the country it’s very important to follow them up when they are sent on errands and how long it will take them,
“So all parents should watch over their children judiciously and not let them out of your sight unnecessarily,”.Olasanya said.
According to her, the year has been a wonderful year for students, with four terms packed together due to the COVID-19 so it has been a long stretch for their brains.
She noted that funfair as the organised one was very necessary to keep both the children and their parents away from stress and violence.
Rukayat Olaosebikan, Parent of one of the students appreciated the school for putting forward the event as it brought closeness between the parents and children.
“This fun-fare is one-off it’s kind because it brings closeness between us and our children we were able to discuss about things,” she said.
She also noted that it was very important to curb bullying as it was a dangerous act for school children to venture into at such a young age.
“Bullying is very bad and we the parents have to be very observant, I got to know that there was a case of a child bullying my son,
“And this event gave me an opportunity to meet the child’s parents to discuss with them and we found out that my son was the one bullying the girl,
“So we resolved everything with her parents today and I disciplined my son never to do it again.”She said.
According to Olaosebikan, if this kind of gathering did not happen, I wouldn’t have known what was going on and discuss how to work on our children to get their best.
“So parents need to be calm and friendly with our children so that they can confide in us and this will help to put an end to bullying practices,
“And as parents when an information gets to you about your child do not take sides, make sure you get to the root of the matter by meeting the other party’s parents”.
“It is also very necessary to engage our children in learning skills or other knowledge during their holiday as it occupies them,
“And it prevents them from mingling with influence therefore curbing all these bullying and robbery because all the robbers we see were once children”. She added.
One of the students, Timileyin Olasanya, urged his fellow students not to engage in bullying emotionally and physically noting that all students are equal, they came for the purpose of learning.
Ajibola Firdaus, another Student of the school while expressing her appreciation and delight to the school for organizing the event said that the games has helped her to overcome her fears.
“The Bungee game has helped me to overcome my fear of heights and the swimming game will help me in emergency times to know what do when there is flood or a storm on sea for future purposes,”Fridaus said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Fun-fair featured dancing and different games like horse riding, video game, Bungee Jumping with participation of parents. (NAN)
