Kano/Jigawa Customs command generate N25.3 bn revenue

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kano/Jigawa Command, has generated generated N25.3 billion revenue in 2021, the Controller, Mr Sulaiman Umar, has said.
Umar made the disclosure on Thursday in Kano while addressing newsmen on the achievements recorded by the command in 2021.
According to him, the revenue was higher than the N24.4 billion generated by the command in 2020.
The controller said a total of 398 seizures were made during the year under review.
He said that the seized items with Duty Paid Value of over N1 billion, included foreign rice, spaghetti, couscous, powder milk, creamy milky, batteries, soap, macaroni and donkey skin, among others.
Umar disclosed that 10 suspects were arrested in connection with smuggling of the items during the period under review.
He added that some of the suspects were handed over to relevant agencies for further investigation and prosecution, while others were granted administrative bail.
The controller commended the officers and men of the command for the successes recorded, and urged them to do more.
“We will continue to utilise our intelligence gathering techniques and available logistics to ensure success in the battle against smugglers and economic saboteurs,” Umar said.
He stressed that the command would continue to sensitise the public on the need to clear their imported goods through inland container terminals.
Umar commended sister security agencies, traditional rulers, the media for their continuous support and synergy which assisted the command in recording the successes.
