World Peace Day: PCN urges youths to embrace peace

The Peace Corp of Nigeria (PCN), has urged the youth to embrace peace so that the country would move forward.

The National Commandant, PCN, Prof. Dickson Akoh, who led a delegation of Non Governmental Organisations, made the appeal while marking the World Peace Day, on Tuesday in Abuja.

The organisations, which were Rotary International Club, World Taekondo and Bright Future Foundation, alongside PCN, also planted trees at the Unity Fountain, to mark the day.

Akoh also advised the aggrieved youths to seek redress through the judiciary instead of towing the path of violence.

He explained that the International Day of Peace, celebrated annually on September 21, was devoted to strengthen the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and people of the world.

“At a time when war and violence often monopolise our news cycles, the International Day of Peace is an inspiring reminder of what we can create together. Let us give it a chance,” Akoh said.

Mr Roy-Stanley Nwafor, an official of Rotary Club, also emphasised that peace building and education were major factors that would bring unity and harmonious relationship in the country.

“The purpose of the day is and still remains, to strengthen the ideals of peace around the world,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that  the United Nations General Assembly has declared the third Tuesday of September as International Day of Peace.

The day also coincides with the opening day of the annual sessions of the General Assembly.
