Customs FOU zone “B” seizes PMS, rice with DPV N74.3m

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘B’ says it has seized goods with duty paid value of N74.3million between January to February within its area of operations.

Comptroller of the Zone, Mr Al-Bashir Hamisu, said this on Wednesday in Kaduna while showcasing some of the seizure to newsmen.

According to him, some of the items seized where six bales of second hand clothes, 262 kegs of PMS and 635 bags of 50kg foreign per boiled rice concealed in bags of beans and firewoods conveyed in a truck.

He said that some of the 50kg per boiled rice where conveyed using small golf vehicles to avert customs.

Other items seized include 31 jerrycans of 25 litres of vegetable oil, 12 jerrycans of 10 litres and 8 jerrycans of 5 litres of vegetable oils and 183 pieces of used tyres and 13 vehicles.

Hamisu said 13 bags of 50kg of sugar, 149 cartons of milk flavour and 20 cartons of Ginny creamer milk were also confiscated.

He said that other seizures where deposited in various locations within the zone.

He said the officers are still trailing suspects while reiterating their commitment in fulfilling their responsibility.

Hamisu said the seizure was made possible by corporations from the general public adding that as smugglers continue to device new tactics they would also continue to tract them.

He said they would continue in same direction going by the marching order from the Comptroller General of Customs.

The CG has directed we us to go after rice and other smuggled goods. Some of the rice where forcefully evacuated from shops and warehouses and various locations,” he said.
