Corruption: Centre Urges Parents to instill good morals in children for better society
The Interfaith Mediation Centre (IMC) in Kaduna, has called on parents to instil morality in their children so as to have a better society free of corruption.
The appeal was contained in a communiqué signed by Dr. James Wuye and Imam Muhammad Ashafa, Co-Executive Directors of the Centre, at the end of a meeting organized for civil society groups, people with disability and community leaders in Kaduna on Wednesday.
It noted that the fight against corruption was a collective responsibility, with parents at the forefront through teaching children good morals.
“The fight against corruption, must begin at the grassroots and at the individuals levels.
“Every parent should teach their children the effects and implications of corruption and also to step its down by ensuring that whatever we do, we remove corruption tendencies in it.”
The centre also stressed the urgent need to extend the fight against corruption to schools, in order to educate pupils on the dangers of involving in corruption.
It said some parent were the real actors that encouraged children to be corrupt at an early age and urged such parents to repent, so as to have a corrupt free society.
The communiqué noted the increasing rate of people with disability, who were largely ignored and have no basic amenities and support to make the best out of life.
It said that although “funds are budgeted for them, but due to high level of corruption some of this funds are been diverted.”
The centre urged government to live up to its responsibilities, by providing basic services, in order to reduce corruption in the country.
“We need to also go back to our two Holy Books, Qur’an and the Bible, and through fear of God and sincerity of purpose, to save Nigeria from corruption and it’s negative effects.”
The centre urged government to give independence and financial autonomy to the judiciary, to carry out its responsibility effectively without hindrance.
“Any person, no matter his status or influence in the society if found wanting of corruption, must be punished in accordance to the law of the land.”
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme was supported by MacArthur Foundation and Mambayya House, Kano.
The centre commended the coopting of disabled persons into the programme, as well as choosing the topic on faith based approach in the fight against corruption as a subject of discussion.
participants were drawn from various communities in Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Igabi and Chikun Local government areas of Kaduna state.
