Tribute : Gen,Tukur Buratai a silent achiever
Today I want to celebrate a silent achiever, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai. He was appointed Chief of Army Staff on the 13th Of July, 2015, by President Muhammadu Buhari.
His appointment came at a time the Nation was grappling with challenges of insurgency in the North East, and amidst all the challenges, the Chief has recorded so many achievements on the battle ground and in the larger society.
As thoroughbred Professional, he has ensured that the Army dispatches its duties in the line with its Constitutional roles. He has being able to achieve so much in the protection of human rights.
Buratai has also focused on development of infrastructure in Military formations and Rehabilitation of dilapidated structures.
Buratai has “Increased the Morale” of his men and officers by periodically training with them and joining them on the battlefield. Another area of interest to this fearless general is the training and re-training of his men which has greatly reduced acts of cowardice and indiscipline in the military.
” This is one COAS who remembers to join his men at the frontline during Salah and Christmas celebrations in solidarity with them. Due to his professional handling of the troops terrorist can no longer operate freely. We no longer have sporadic incidences of bombing in the country and with the support and encouragement of all, insurgency will gradually fade away.
” Lt. General Tukur Buratai is a professional, who has labored diligently over the years and succeeded in etching your name in gold. With the grace of Allah, you have reached the highest echelon of your profession.
” As a combatant, you have been saddled with the onerous responsibility of restoring hope to the hopeless; life to those who were on the verge of extinction.”
I was in Maiduguri last year November, and like a typical journalists, I went about asking questions from taxi drivers, Keke riders and shop owners. I strike up conversations with the locals and a bit of Kanuri in the process. And the general consensus is this: Security situation has greatly improved in Maiduguri compared to 2014/2015. I learnt that it got so bad that a no uniform man will dare to be seen on the streets of Maiduguri. When I conducted this interview, I wasn’t planning on writing any article, just me being my curious self.
Some people argue that why only Maiduguri? Why not the other nearby Towns and Villages? And I say they are trying their best all over the Country and we need to show appreciation and support the Military with relevant information so that it will motivate them to do more.
Gen. Tukur Buratai in all of these tasks has executed his job with a high level of discipline and professionalism worthy of emulation. What is very constant is the ultimate service to the nation and the upholding of nationalism and patriotism. Yet, you remain a study in humanism, humility and unalloyed courage.
You are a great example in nationalism. in you , no one can find any strand of garishness. Sir, without mincing word, my dear general, this is your finest hour! As you are plus one today, let me humbly join millions of your lovers, protégés, admirers and well-wishers all over the globe to say CONGRATULATIONS! May God Almighty grant you more years of comfort, steadfastness, progress and service to God and Country through humanity (Amen).
The peoples General, Happy birthday to you sir!
