June 13, 2020

The Nigerian Youth Compact on COVID-19 (NYCC) says it guarantees to provide a minimum data of 10 million youths across the 774 local government areas in Nigeria

Comrade Gambo Haruna, National Chairman of NYCC made the promise on a live streaming programme organized by the compact tag “ONE STOP YOUTH TALK”and monitored on zoom and Facebook in Abuja.

He said the NYCC was sure of achieving the data through five key areas: Data gathering, Advocacy, Capacity building, Access and Resource in accordance with the United Nations Global Compact on Humanitarian Action and COVID-19.

Haruna emphasized the importance of data in planing and the fight against coronavirus, more importantly the Post-COVID which he said was more threatening to the youths, without proper planning to cushion the aftermath of the pandemic

He said it would be a worthless effort if meaningful and accurate data of youths were not properly documented as they would be the most to hit during the post-COVID for constituting more than 60 per cent of the population and also drive the economy of Nigeria.

The Chairman expressed satisfaction with the massive inflow of youths into the NYCC website to upload their data.

He said so far, the youth compact could boast of accurate data of youths in almost all the local government areas in the country, barely a week after it was unveil.

He also commended the critical partners of NYCC like the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), Common Wealth Association of youth workers (CAYWA) Commonwealth Association of African Youth, YES Project, Action Aid, Minister of state on Education, FCT Minister of State and several others for their efforts in the project.

He urged the youth to register as members of the project, reminding them “the world is being reset and may not fully recover from this pandemic.”

Mrs Millicent Umoru Osakwa, the moderator of the One Stop Youth Talk as well the head of publicity said, the youth compact welcomed membership from youths within the 18-40 years and partnered with Non-Governmental Organizations, Community Based Organizations and Faith Based Organizations in actualising the project..

She said that the programme, ‘One Stop Youth Talk on Covid -19’ would be a weekly exercise that would engage Nigerian youths across the globe.
