Engineer Sule commissions Senator Al-makura JAMB centre, performs ground breaking for 350-capacity Lafia bus terminal

Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule has commissioned the 825-capacity Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura CBT/JAMB Test Centre, named after the immediate past governor of the state who initiated the project.

Engineer Sule commissioned the CBT/JAMB centre on Wednesday, as part of activities marking the first anniversary of his administration.

In the same vein, the Governor equally performed the ground breaking ceremony of the 350-capacity Lafia modern bus terminal in Bukkan Sidi area.

Engineer Sule who described the inauguration of the Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura CBT/JAMB Centre, as “continuity in governance at its peak”, stressing that his administration took it upon itself to complete the project it inherited at 50 percent completion because of the importance it attaches to education, as well as the desire to support the teeming youths who are trying to acquire formal education.

He disclosed that the centre will not only be of benefit to Nasarawa State but the country as a whole, because many organisations, aside of WAEC and NECO, will also be conducting several other tests at the centre.

Flagging-off the construction of the 350-capacity modern bus terminal in Lafia, the state capital, Engineer Sule recalled the commitment of his administration to build modern bus terminals across the three senatorial districts of the state.

He noted that the provision of infrastructure is a veritable tool for enhancing development, particularly in the transport sector, adding that the sector, with adequate facilities, is capable of spurring socio-economic development in the society.

“It’s in this connection that it became absolutely necessary to develop modern transport infrastructure, in order to unravel the potentials of this important sector,” the Governor stated.

According to Engineer Sule, it has become necessary to build much desired infrastructure for an ordered city like Lafia, in order to enhanced development, which will further complement the status of the state capital.

“Lafia metropolis is faced with several, inadequate infrastructure with attendant increase cost of doing business, which results in lower returns on investment, fewer jobs and less productive labour with attendant negative effects on our economy,” he explained.

He added that government is committed to bringing about infrastructural development, aimed at improving the standard of living of the people and also as a wealth, job creating opportunities for the socio-economic development of the state.

The Governor further disclosed that that explains the resolve of his administration to build modern bus terminals in Karu, Lafia, with plans concluded to construct two other smaller terminals in Akwanga and Keffi.

He pointed out that the development is critical to the success of the mass transit service delivery, as every terminal will promote good culture of passengers embarking on a journey and arriving at their destinations successfully.

“Lafia is strategically located as a state capital, as well as its advantage in linking major cities of Benue and the entire Southern part of the country,” Engineer Sule stated.

Earlier, in their separate remarks, Director General, Nasarawa State Bureau for Information Technology, Mallam Shehu Ibrahim, revealed that the centre, comprising of three separate buildings, is equipped with 275 computers each, making the sum total of 825 computers.

On his part, Project Consultant for the Lafia Bus Terminal, Architect Shehu Tukur, disclosed that the Bukkan Sidi Bus Terminal will be erected on a 2.7 hectares of land, which will accommodate about 350 vehicles at a time.

Tukur added that the facility will comprise a terminal building, drivers lounge, public toilets, a petrol station, service yard, restaurants and ATM points, among others.

The project, which is awarded at the cost of N1.2bn, is expected to be completed in 40 weeks.

Meanwhile, in continuation of the activities lined up to mark the first anniversary of his administration, Engineer Sule paid on the spot inspection visits to facilities within the state capital namely; ongoing construction project for the new presidential lodge, the Infectious Diseases, Diagnosis & Research Centre, at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH), the Shabu Isolation centre, as well as the Western Bye-pass, running from Azuba to Kwandere.
