Nigerian Youths set to unveil a compact to fight COVID-19, targetting 10 million youths

The Coalition of Voluntary Youth Organizations VYO’s and Non Governmental Organizations NGOs are set to unveil a compact that would fight the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria, targetting 10 million youths as beneficiaries of the programme.

Mr Gambo Haruna,the National Chairman of the Nigeria Youth Compact on COVID-19, disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja on Monday.

Haruna said that the youth compact, scheduled to be unveiled next Thursday,” is a humanitarian and social duty toward making life meaningful for young people during this “long night of COVID-19 pandemic.”

The national chairman added that the group was hopeful of igniting the hope of over 10 million Nigerian Youths, through mobilization network of youth organizations across the country to inform, co-design and support the COVID-19 response.

He said that young people across the globe were adapting, responding and demonstrating their resilience by bringing new solutions to the table in order to tackle the challenges posed by the pandemic and the resultant humanitarian crisis in their respective countries.

Haruna added that the Nigeria Youth Compact on COVID-19 would be an unprecedented and ensure the success of the collective commitment of key actors in the Youth constituency to make sure that priorities , needs and rights of young women and men, girls and boys affected by disaster, were given attention.

According to him, the body would also ensure that forced displacement and other humanitarian crises affecting youths were addressed While they would be informed, consulted and meaningfully engaged.

This process, Haruna,added, would be on throughout all stages of humanitarian actions, including immediate and post response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said that the group was powered by several notable youth organizations which include Common Wealth Youth Workers Association (CAYWA) Nigeria, Peace Corp of Nigeria (PCN), African Youth Envoy, World Assembly of Youths (WAY) among others.
