Nasarawa NUJ debunks alleged participation in ongoing LG workers strike

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nasarawa State Council has dissociated itself from the story published in an online newspaper, “Express Day”, suggesting that the council has joined other unions in the state to embark on a 7-day warning strike to protest over payment of salaries in percentages, to Local Government workers in the state.

The NUJ in Nasarawa State, in a statement issued and signed by its Acting Chairman, Comrade Juliana Ofoku, on Friday, said the council has never had any joint meeting with any union to embarked on strike as claimed by author of the publication in Express Day.

According to the statement, the NUJ in the state have been enjoying cordial working relationship with the Nasarawa State Government, and did not have any issue with the government related to percentage payment of salaries, as all the journalists working with the state owned media have no pending issues as such.

“Therefore, the leadership of NUJ in Nasarawa State wish to appeal on the state government to disregard the report, as such statement does not emanate from NUJ in whatsoever guise. The state council of the NUJ also wish to call on members of the public to ignore the report in it entirety, as it is the figment of the writer’s imagination.

“The NUJ in the state would like to assured the good people of Nasarawa State that, journalists in the state will continue to put in their best of informing and educating the people, especially now that the attention of the media is most needed on the dreaded pandemic that ravaged the world, which Nasarawa is inclusive,” the statement concluded.
