Any society without functional education, is a disaster waiting to happen-Senator Al-makura

Former Nasarawa State governor, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura (APC, Nasarawa North), has said that any society without qualitative and functional education, is a disaster waiting to happen.

Senator Al-makura made this known shortly after being honoured with a doctorate degree of letters by the Federal University of Lafia, (FULafia), during the institution’s combined convocation ceremony, on Saturday.

The lawmaker, who was honoured alongside the late Emir of Lafia, Alhaji (Dr) Isa Mustapha Awai I, (Dr.) Sheik Dahiru Bauchi, Alhaji (Dr.) Abdulsamad Isyaku Rabiu and Amb. (Dr. ) Ahmed El-Gazali, described education as the greatest legacy leaders can bequeath to generations yet unborn.
Speaking on behalf of the honourees, , Senator Al-makura, while calling for investment in the area of education, however noted that such education must be holistic, inclusive, functional and qualitative, not the type that only produces employment seekers but graduates that are productive and can add value to society.

“The focus must also be tailored towards ensuring worthwhile and functional education, not the type that produces employment seekers but that which ensures those with it can be productive and add value to society,” he stated.

While appreciating the visitor, council, senate, management and university community for finding them worthy to be honoured, Senator Al-makura commended the university administration for the landmark achievement leading to the combined convocation.

He promised to continue to contribute their quota to the development of the university.

Earlier, Pro Chancellor of FULafia, Emeritus Professor Munzali Jibril, congratulated the honorary graduands, for accepting to be honoured by the university, thereby raising the status and prestige of the institution, on account of their intimidating pedigree, antecedents and achievements.
