The management of the Federal University Lafia, FULAFIA, says it is ready to comply with the President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to enroll into the Integrated Personnel Payroll System, IPPIS.

Aluta News reports that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, had objected to the idea of the IPPIS enrollment, insisting that the integrated payment system would interfere with its autonomy.

The union stated that IPPIS violates university autonomy and FGN/ASUU agreement as it did not address the peculiarity inherent in the nature and structure of universities.

“Specifically, IPPIS violates and erodes university autonomy inherent in the extent provisions of section 2AA of the Universities Miscellaneous Provision (Amendment) Act 2003,” ASUU’s Zonal Coordinator in Owerri, Uzo Onyebinama has said.

However, the information and public relations officer of the FULAFIA, Abubakar Ibrahim, in an interview with DAILY NIGERIAN on Friday, disclosed that the university would comply with the directive, despite ASUU’s objection.

Mr Ibrahim disclosed that the decision followed a letter the university received from the office of the Accountant General of the Federation, informing them of the commencement of the IPPIS enrolment exercise in the university on Monday, November 25.

“Federal University Lafia, will definitely obey the instruction from the office of the accountant general of the federation,” Mr Ibrahim said.

The university’s spokesman said that the school had, therefore, issued a circular to all staff members to get ready with the necessary requirement for the commencement of the exercise on Monday, November 25.

According to him, Federal University Lafia being an obedient institution, will abide by the rules and regulations governing the payment of workers in Nigeria, urging all staffers of the university, both academic and non-academic, to get set for the exercise.

“We have issued a circular to all staff and ASSU members are also members of staff of the university,” he disclosed.

Mr Ibrahim said that during the exercise, staffers are required to bring along their BVN, bank statement, and appointment letters among other required documents.
