Youth Restiveness: Peace Corps partners FG on job creation
The Peace Corp of Nigeria (PCN), on Tuesday in Abuja expressed willingness to partner with the Federal Government toward addressing youth restiveness and job creation in the country.
National Commandant of the corps, Prof. Dickson Akoh, made the pledge when he led the delegation to present a proposal on road map to job creation to the Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha.
Akoh said that the delegation was in SGF office as concerned and patriotic organisation with the mission to seek institutional partnership with the Federal Government.
He said through the partnership millions of youth would be effectively trained and disciplined in various forms of community works and social safety activities, in the spirit of voluntarism
He said the corps as an organised body with national and international recognition had a well structure network of branches in all the 36 states of the Federation.
” Including the Federal Capital Territory and 90 per cent of Local Government areas in Nigeria.
He explained that the membership of the corps was open to all Nigerian youths irrespective of age, religion, sex political affiliation or social status.
He disclosed that the corp had membership strength of over 187,000 youths comprising of both regular members and volunteers mostly graduates.
The peace Corp Commandant advised government to evolve means of pulling the youth off the streets and deploying them to organised labour services at most minimal cost.
” Which is basically what the are bringing on board.” Akoh said.
Mrs Olusola Dada, Director, Nigeria National Volunteer Services who responded on behalf of Boss Mustapha SGF had commended Peace Corp for being focus despite several challenges.
Dada also hailed peace corps for the creating job to ensure that Nigeria youths are engage.
She assured that the proposal would be deliver to the SGF for consideration.
