22nd Anniversary: Peace Corps Urges Nigerians to observe government protocols towards curtailing COVID-19

Dr Dickson Akoh, National Commandant of Peace Corps of Nigeria has urged Nigerians to observe government protocols in order to effectively curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

He gave the advice during the PCN 22nd anniversary held at Ugboju, Benue State on Saturday

Akoh expressed delight that PCN he started in 1998, as a tiny ember of his imagination, has blossomed into a colossus with over 187,000 youths, comprising regular members and volunteers with a well structured network of branches in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory(FCT).

The PCN boss said that the highest point of the organisation’s achievement was the passage of the bill for an act to establish the Nigeria Peace Corps in 2017, by 8th National Assembly in order to give statutory backing to the Corps’ corporate existence

Akoh said:”Although the President and Commander in Chief Federal Republic of Nigeria withheld his assent to the bill, it is cheering to noted that the National Assembly has re-gazetted and reintroduce the bill with a view to re-passing and retransmiting it to Mr President for assent.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Royal father of Idoma land, His Highness Ogabaidu Obekpa IV, congratulated the PCN for the success story recorded so far.

He described the National Commandant as a worthy son of Idoma land and urged all Nigerians to emulate his humanitarian and selfless service to humanity and the nation.
