The Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, has concurred with Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris in supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the South to contest for a second term in office, in consonance with the rotational policy of the party.
Speaking separately at the Palace of the Emir of Gwandu in Birnin Kebbi on Monday, the duo solicited massive votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the people of the North-West Zone and the entire northern region in the presidential election scheduled for 16 January 2027.
“The North is known for its fairness. Southerners agreed, persevered, and consented to the North spending two terms in the presidency; it was only three years ago that power left the North-West. We must be seen to be fair and just.
“This is the basis for peace and lasting unity that will make Nigeria continue to prosper. Our visit to this dignified palace is to pay homage to His Royal Majesty and seek your blessings and prayers for the task ahead,” Yari said.
In his remarks, Governor Idris said: “The APC is firmly rooted in Kebbi. The distinguished DG has seen the massive turnout of people in a warm welcome to the campaign council members and in solidarity for President Tinubu, who has delivered the requisite dividends of democracy to uplift the wellbeing of our communities.
“The North has spent eight years in power. It is only fair and in the spirit of oneness, togetherness, unity of purpose and our cherished rotational presidency to allow the South to complete its eight years in the saddle.”
In his response, the Emir of Gwandu, who is also Chairman of the Kebbi State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar, prayed for the victory of the President and Governor Idris at the 2027 polls.
“People should elect Tinubu. I know him as an amiable and amenable leader, a nice personality. Prior to becoming President, he came to Kebbi to chair the launch of my biography in the spirit of revering the traditional institution and strengthening national unity.
“Leadership is a burden. Nigerians should appreciate President Tinubu for his untiring efforts to better our lives. Significantly, I want the President to reappraise…” the monarch said.
Before their departure from Kebbi, Governor Nasir Idris hosted Senator Yari and other members of the campaign council to a private luncheon and later received them on a courtesy call.
