The former Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr Mike Omeri, has pledged to keep his campaign promises and deliver people-centred representation if elected as a senator in the 2027 general elections.
Omeri, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Nasarawa South Senatorial District, gave the assurance during a listening tour to the Shabu community on Saturday in Lafia.
According to him, anyone casting their vote for him should not be afraid, as he will own up to his campaign promises and assured the people of Shabu to deliver effective representation.
“We also are ready to advise other people in the course of this journey, because no one person knows it all. We have to work together to achieve what we need,” he added.
The senatorial hopeful said his visit to Shabu, which started from the palace, was part of his listening tour to hear directly from the people who have been urging him and other PDP candidates to contest.
“Well, we are here on a listening tour. We are trying to listen to the people. We have ambition, we have aspiration, we have the people talking to us and urging us to contest elections to various offices, particularly for me.
“The other contestants are for the offices of Governor, House of Representatives and House of Assembly, but for me, I am on a listening tour to also share our own intention with the people to see how we can create that harmony of service to the people and to the community,” he said.
On his connection with the Shabu community, Omeri said his long-standing relationships through friends, schoolmates and work colleagues have made his acceptance easy.
“We just want to thank God that along the way, we have friends, schoolmates in these communities, and they know us.
” And we have people that we have worked with; they know what we can do and what we can give. They have taken the messages even before us to the people in their respective communities,” he said.
Omeri appealed to the people of Nasarawa South to vote for him and other PDP candidates, promising collaborative representation that would foster unity.
“So, Nasarawa South, do not be afraid. Let us work together. Cast that vote for Mike Omeri, and when we get into the National Assembly, we will work together.
“All the things that we have listed and said we were going to do, we will do them together so that we can create that sense of unity and the fraternal bond of community,” he said.
Also speaking, Mr Bako Labaran – Musa, Nasarawa State PDP Public Relations Officer, said keeping promises remains the party’s hallmark and appealed to the Shabu community to vote PDP candidates for governance.
On his part, Mohammed Aliyu, Youth Leader, who spoke on behalf of the community, expressed belief in Omeri’s mission, noting that the tour addressed local needs and emphasised unity among youth and residents to support Omeri’s election.
