The 10-day free specialised medical outreach organised by the Stella Oduah Foundation for residents of Ogbaru and Onitsha South Local Government Areas (LGs) of Anambra State has commenced at designated health facilities in the two local government areas.
The medical outreach, which runs from October 15 to 24, 2026, is taking place at Solution General Hospital, Okpoko, in Ogbaru LGA, and Fegge General Hospital, Onitsha South LGA.
According to the organisers, the initiative is aimed at improving access to quality healthcare by providing free specialised medical services to residents, particularly individuals and families who may find it difficult to afford the cost of treatment.
The programme offers beneficiaries access to specialised surgical procedures, medical consultations, examinations and other necessary treatments.
Residents of Ogbaru and Onitsha South have been encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to receive medical attention at the designated hospitals throughout the duration of the exercise.
The initiative comes as Senator Stella Oduah, who hails from the area, seeks re-election to the Nigerian Senate in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
On the first day of the outreach, Solution General Hospital in Okpoko witnessed a flurry of activities as healthcare workers and residents arrived to participate in the programme.
Speaking during an interview, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Gerald Anusiobi, said the facility and its personnel were fully prepared to attend to patients and address their medical needs.
Dr. Anusiobi commended the Stella Oduah Foundation for organising the free medical intervention, describing it as a welcome development that would help residents access essential healthcare services.
He explained that screening, medical examinations and other preliminary arrangements were already underway to ensure the smooth implementation of the programme.
The medical director also disclosed that information about the outreach had been widely disseminated to residents through various channels to ensure that members of the public were aware of the opportunity.
Some healthcare workers at the facility also expressed their readiness to receive patients and provide the necessary medical services throughout the outreach.
A nurse at the hospital, Precious Nwagbo, assured residents that the medical services covered by the programme were free of charge, stressing that beneficiaries would not be required to make payments for the services provided under the initiative.
She urged residents to come forward and take advantage of the opportunity to address their healthcare needs.
Similarly, Mrs. Nkechi Ibezim, an administrative officer at Solution General Hospital, described the intervention as a significant opportunity for residents to access specialised medical care without the financial burden associated with such services.
Mrs. Ibezim disclosed that residents who arrived at the hospital on the morning of the first day had undergone preliminary examinations and were awaiting the commencement of the various medical procedures scheduled under the programme.
The 10-day outreach is expected to provide healthcare support to residents of Ogbaru and Onitsha South, with the organisers encouraging eligible beneficiaries to visit the designated hospitals during the exercise.
