The Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Dr Labaran Magaji, has charged pro- All Progressives Congress (APC) support groups in the state to translate their numerical strength into electoral victory in the 2027 general elections.
Magaji gave the charge in Lafia while addressing leaders of support groups at a thank-you meeting organised to appreciate them for the successful North Central mega rally in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
He said Nasarawa State has no reason to be intimidated by any opposition party given the number of support groups and the organised party structure in the state.
According to him, his office alone has a record of over 500 support groups, with each group having not less than 100 members.
“We have about 3,100 polling units in Nasarawa State. From time immemorial, governors win elections in the state with only 300,000 votes. If each support group can deliver just 100 votes per polling unit, we have already won the election,” he said.
The SSG, who is also the Nasarawa State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, lamented that many support groups are visible during rallies and campaigns but disappear on election day, leaving them unable to secure their polling units.
“You will suffer; go to rallies, everybody identifies you with APC, but on election day you don’t even have the capacity to identify yourself with your polling unit, let alone vote, and when somebody wins, you are already an orphan.
“You cannot measure the security of having your own person and party in government,” he said.
The SSG also warned against anti-party activities, recalling how the APC lost power in 2011 due to internal sabotage.
“Once you work against your own party, the day of reckoning is the day you lose the election, and the same people you worked for will be the first to mock you,” he cautioned.
He urged the groups to remain focused and intensify grassroots mobilisation, noting that the APC remains the most organised party with full structures in all 147 wards and complete candidates for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly.
Speaking on behalf of the groups, Rev. Dr Wilson Kingsley commended the SSG for demonstrating exemplary leadership in handling support groups.
He appealed for a monitoring and evaluation platform to differentiate between long-standing groups with structures across the 13 local government areas and mushroom groups with only a few members.
He expressed confidence that the SSG, as a man who believes in social justice, would ensure fairness in the distribution of support to enable committed groups to give their best for the campaign.
